First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Who are We?

First Christian Church is more than a beautiful sanctuary.  It is a community of people who strive to be more like Jesus every day.

Our members care for each other, grow and learn together, worship together, and serve others through local and global missions.

We offer study and fellowship groups that allow participants to ask honest questions, share opinions, and discover ways to deal with life’s difficult issues and grow in faith.

You are invited and welcome to come and experience "community" firsthand.

First Christian Church is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  The denomination's statement of identity is "We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's Table as God has welcomed us." The chalice symbolizes the central place of communion in worship for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Fellowship and Fun!

We Believe

that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and is our Messiah, Savior and Lord, that the Bible, especially the New Testament, is our guide for faith and life, and that our commitment is to live our faith, not just talk about it.

We Practice

baptism by immersion, upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, and weekly Holy Communion (Lord's Supper), open to all Christians.

Freedom of Belief

As Disciples, we are called together around two essentials of faith: a belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior; and the belief that Christians are free to follow their conscience guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study, and prayer; and we are expected to extend that freedom to others.

The Lord's Supper

"At the table of the Lord we celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ" -- From the Preamble of the Design for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Sharing in the Lord's Supper is at the heart of what members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) do when they gather for worship. Generally each week there will be the singing of hymns, prayers, the reading of scripture, and a sermon. But without the Lord's Supper (or communion, as it is often called), worship would be incomplete. A marked characteristic of Disciples is an emphasis upon the importance of the Lord's Supper as a basic part of weekly worship.
